Well-being in Lockdown

Well-being in Lockdown

When we first experienced a national lockdown in March last year it was the first time most of us had ever known anything like it.  The majority of us thankfully weren’t directly affected by the virus itself and the weather turned beautiful just at the right time.  We were at home and for many there was almost a sense of (dare I say it?) excitement – like a holiday, we couldn’t work and we had to stop running around to a full schedule seven days a week.  For most, it was almost pleasant.  This was before it began to wear thin……on so many levels.

This time round we know what to expect and know full-well the things we found difficult last time.  And they all seem amplified in these cold, dark months.  Our situation may have changed, making things more (or maybe less) difficult and of course, by now we may have been ill or lost someone ourselves to the virus – making this all the more real.

In my newsletter, I talked about reflecting on the positives and the lessons from last year, so I don’t want to dwell on how bad it could be for us – we all know that already.  What I want to focus on is helping you to make this lockdown more bearable.

Why not try and see the last national lockdown as a practice run and do this one differently

To do list on 2021 year with computer on white background

  • Many people have said to me “I wish I’d done…..while I had the time”. So if you are stuck at home now, with time on your hands, make a plan.
  • Decide what you want to achieve and write it down – just a list or post-its will do, but if you’re a proper planner then put a timetable together.
  • Make sure you get in some rest time
  • And some exercise
  • And maybe some spiritual practice (reading, meditation, time with your crystals)
  • Cook and eat delicious and nutritious foods
  • And try not to be glued to the news, or social media for that matter

We can do this differently this time if we choose to and yes, that means a positive mindset.  But, and here’s the most important message……………..please don’t expect to be optimistic all the time.  We are human and at the mercy of hormones and outside influences and the moon and emotions.  So please cut yourself some slack when your mood isn’t good and use that time to rest.

When you are in a great frame of mind, make the most of it.  Power through your plan, do practical things, necessary things and enjoyable things.  Really make that positive energy work for you.

But when you’re not in that place, be kind to yourself.  Wrap up cozy, drink warm drinks and do what you feel like doing.  Don’t beat yourself up for not doing the housework, clearing out that cupboard or going for a run – you can do that another day.  But also try not to spend the whole day on the sofa in front of the telly either.  Try reading or a jigsaw, a craft project or even cloud watching from the warmth of your bed.

If you know you are prone to feeling low from time to time then there are things you can do to change your mood.

A little preparation when you’re feeling good can stand you in good stead for when you’re not.

  • Try to eat healthily most of the time, as this can reduce the frequency and depth of the low moods.
  • Take a few calming deep breaths.
  • Get outside and breath some fresh air or at least look out of the window and get some natural light into your body.
  • Have some crystals or aromatherapy oils to hand that can uplift you when you need them. Amethyst, orange calcite and rose quartz or neroli, petitgrain or sweet orange essential oils should do the trick.
  • If something you are doing is dragging your mood down then stop, do something else and come back to it later
  • Learn to recognise when your mood is changing and try one of the above.

And remember that everything changes, no situation ever stays the same for too long.  You can reach out for help, there is plenty around but also you can dig deep and you will be amazed at your own inner strength.

There are many holistic therapies that can help at times like these including Distance Reiki and aromatherapy.  You can find out more details here or you can contact me directly and I’ll be happy to chat with you.

Do know that the energies of the Universe have shifted since the Winter Solstice and so we are in a very different place.  The light of the new Age of Aquarius is here, if we are willing to open up and see it.  But we have to do this ourselves, we have to take charge for our own growth, progress, lives.  Yes, there is help out there for physical, mental and spiritual well-being but we also have a responsibility to look after our own welfare.

Outdoor Christmas Market 2020

I can now reveal that I will be having a stall at the gorgeous outdoor Christmas Market at The Plough at Bolnhurst on Saturday 5th December.  With lockdown restrictions officially being eased on 2nd December we are delighted that this event can definitely go ahead.

You can find full details of this exclusive event are on their website and BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL.

The Plough wants to ensure safety of all concerned and so the events are ticketed.  With two lunch and shop sittings and a twilight shopping period with hot drinks and mince pies there will be plenty of opportunity to join us.

This is a great way to support local businesses, in a beautiful setting and with a gorgeous festive atmosphere.

There will be all manner of gifts ideas yet so don’t worry if you haven’t even started your shopping, this will be the place to do it in a relaxed and civilised fashion.

I will be having my Neal’s Yard Remedies stall at this unique outdoor Christmas market.  It will be packed full of natural and organic skin and body care.  I will have many of the gifts from the brochure and will still be able to place orders if I don’t have what you would like in stock.  You can browse through the range in advance here or you can watch my video where I show you some of the gifts in more detail.  Towards the end of the video I also give you ideas for bespoke gift boxes I can make up for you too.

Christmas shopping will be different this year

Many of us don’t want to visit the high streets or retail parks for our Christmas shopping this year.  Even if you wear your mask, use sanitiser and keep the recommended 2m distance, it’s really not going to feel the same is it?

I know many of you are still only going out for essentials only and with so much available online why would you do otherwise, this year in particular?

It’s also becoming more apparent that you want to be more thoughtful in the presents you give.  You don’t want gifts sets with lots of single-use plastic packaging.  And you do want to consider the impact on the environment, something more natural, more connected to the earth even.  If these things are important to you, why don’t you consider joining my Facebook group?

Well if you know me, you know where I’m going with this – the Neal’s Yard Remedies Christmas gift range is stunning this year!  I have been so excited by it in so many ways.  It’s beautiful, nature-loving and thought-provoking design, the re-usable ‘plant pot’ packaging and the variety of the range.

As always the products are completely natural and never tested on animals.  They are predominantly plant-based, a few have honey or beeswax in (do talk to me if you’re looking for vegan products).  They also use essential oils not just for the gorgeous fragrance but also for their amazing healing properties.

Below you’ll see the video I made to help you with your Christmas shopping as I show you around the brochure.  But we all know sometimes the sets don’t fit the people we want to buy for so I also showed a few bespoke gift sets I could make up for you.

But I’d also like to highlight a few of my favourites…..

MEDITATE Aromatherapy Duo  I use this aromatherapy blend when I run my meditation group on a Thursday evening.  It’s gorgeous smell – frankincense, orange, cedarwood, vetiver – happy, relaxed and focused.  Perfect!

REVIVE Shower gel collection  People visiting my stall often can’t decide which shower gel to choose.  They are all so gorgeous my favourite changes each time I open a new one!  This gift set means you don’t have to choose.

Seaweed & Arnica BATH SALTS These salts are perfect for after gardening or exercise as the oils sooth aching joints and muscles.  A wonderful gift or necessary treat for yourself.

There are many ways you can do your Christmas shopping.  You can contact me through any of the usual channels on my contact page or order directly through my Neal’s Yard Remedies website.  Or why don’t you make it special and have get a few friends together for a Zoom shopping party?  I can send out catalogues and samples to try, set up a Zoom meeting then we gather together with a glass of wine or mug of hot chocolate and our slippers for an hour of laughs and loveliness.  Book your shopping evening now!

Refer a Friend Promotion

How much do you enjoy your treatments?

Many of you recognise the benefits of coming regularly for Reiki or reflexology treatments, but how do you fancy just paying less for your treatment?

All I ask in return is that you ‘refer a friend’ ie recommend me to someone you know.  When you enjoy something as much as your relaxing treatment, it seems a kindness to share it with your friends.  And how about family or colleagues, parents from the school gate or a friend on Facebook.  Don’t worry if your friends aren’t local, Distance Reiki can be done wherever they live – I am currently working effectively with people who live 80 miles from where I am.  Find out more about Distance Reiki here.

We all come into contact with people who are stressed or need some time out, so please let them know how your Reiki or reflexology session helps you.  These last few years have been difficult for all of us in one way, shape or form.  They have brought out emotions in us that we didn’t expect and have challenged our coping mechanisms.  This in turn has upset our usual balance and equilibrium and made us look at things differently.  This is of course, not always a bad thing but it takes a little getting used to and sometimes we need some support.  The treatments I offer not only relax the body, but can also ease the mind and soothe the emotions.

So how does the refer a friend reward work?

  • Firstly pass my details on to your friend
  • Then ask them to contact me to book an appointment
  • When your friend has had their appointment* you can claim £10 off your next treatment
  • You can repeat as many times as you like

A few Ts & Cs….

  • Your friend must have booked, attended and paid for their treatment before your discount can be applied.
  • Discounted treatments cannot be used on the loyalty card.
  • You can refer friends and claim your discounts as many times as you like.
  • The friend must not be an existing client of mine.
  • *If your friend books a 30 minute Distance Reiki treatment they must have two treatments before you can claim your discount.
  • The cancellation policy applies to all appointments and will be charged at the stated rates and not at the discounted rate.

COVID-19 Risk Assessment and Commitment

Updated April 2021

Following the announcement by the Government on Monday 5th April, We are delighted that Medulla Holistic Therapies can start seeing clients face to face again for hands on treatments.COVID-19 risk assessment - staying covid secure  This COVID-19 Risk Assessment shows my commitment to keeping my clients and myself and family safe.

Obviously keeping you and us safe is of paramount importance and so there will be some changes to the way appointments and treatments are carried out.  This will include reduced chat time and increased PPE as well as a health questionnaire before each and every appointment.  I will ask you to not attend your appointment if you or any of your household have any of the COVID-19 symptoms, to wear your own face covering and put it on before entering the house and to take care not to touch anything before you enter the treatment room as a way of protecting us all.

Please read the Risk Assessment and Commitment below that I undertake to protect you and then please also read the new client protocol which advises what you and we should do to prevent the virus from spreading.

I have taken my guidance from the UK Reiki Federation as well as the Government’s website www.gov.uk

If you have any questions regarding my statements or changes to your treatment then please do contact me here.

I have removed the rugs, soft furnishings and many decorative items to ensure all surfaces in the treatment room are easy to clean and sanitise.
I will only be using the treatment couch as it is easier to sanitise before and after each client. The small stool will also be included in this process and the couch cover will be washed after each client.
The pillow coverings, blankets, flannels and towels will also be changed and washed after each client.
I will wear a face covering, a visor and a disposable apron for all treatments.  I will wear gloves for Reiki but not reflexology.
I will wash my hands immediately before and after each treatment without touching anything between the sink and the treatment room and drying my hands on paper towel.
I have to keep your records and agree to share a few details with NHS Track and Trace if they contact me if one of my other clients develops symptoms.
I have a responsibility to inform the local health authority if you tell me that you develop symptoms within seven days of visiting my treatment room.
On the morning of each treatment I will text you a health questionnaire at around 8am, please copy and paste it into your reply with you answers.  I will not be able to see you if you have not done this.

COVID-19 risk assessment how to wear a mask

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to read this risk assessment and also the associated protocol.  This is for the safety of all of us and our loved ones and to control the spread of the coronavirus.

Keep well, keep safe and I look forward to seeing you at your next treatment soon.
