Why Medulla?

People often ask me why I called my business MEDULLA.

When I was choosing a name, I wanted a word that meant healing and I love languages so I spent a long time trawling dictionaries and the internet to find the right connotation of the word healing.  Of course, it couldn’t just be quick-fix-with-medicines type healing!

Eventually I came across a Latin word for healing (they had several apparently!) that meant healing by the mind, effectively – thinking yourself well.  But this word – Medulla – also means ‘innermost parts’, think pip or kernel in plants and inner self/soul/spirit in humans.

This is exactly the word I was looking for because at the centre of all my therapies and teaching is the fact that healing comes from within.  It is our strength of thought, our mindset and our belief systems that can heal or otherwise.  Healing isn’t just about sticking a plaster on or masking the pain with analgesics, to me it’s far more about finding the underlying causes.  These causes are very often emotional and to we need to do the inner work to begin the physical healing process.

Reiki and meditation particularly, are very good at helping us to see, release or accept the emotions we feel.  They can also help us come to terms with situations that are sent our way and that may be beyond our control.  Sometimes we need to see

the lessons we need to learn and make changes as part of our healing too.  It often isn’t easy but the results are usually transformational!

That’s the best part of my work; helping and guiding people through the tough stuff and watching them shine as they come out brighter, healthier and happier at the other end.

Medulla – healing from within.

If you would like to talk to me about how this might help you or just find out more then please PM me or email me at anne@medulla.space and we can set up a phone call.

Reiki

Would you like to learn Reiki?

I love teaching Reiki and the way the new practitioners experience the first tingle, sharing the deep inner calm that practicing Reiki brings us and to watch the transformation of my students as they embrace the meditations and practices.

Reiki is taught over three levels or degrees and I will be teaching level 1 to a new group of students.  Would you like to be amongst them?  Are you ready for something gentle yet deep that will bring about lasting, positive change in your life.  Don’t feel you will need to become a practitioner overnight – most people don’t and level 1 is mostly concerned with self Reiki and our own inner growth.  You will learn how to do Reiki on your family and friends but are encouraged to look after yourself with Reiki first.

You can find out about Reiki here or about the UK Reiki Federation with whom I’m registered.

Reiki Level 1 is taught over two days for an exchange of £150. During those two days you will learn about the history of Reiki, the ways it can help you and others, how to do Reiki and a basic understanding of the energetic bodies. As a group you will form a bond with your fellow students as we meditate together, receive the attunements in ceremony together and practice on each other, as well as sharing our experiences.

This course is suitable for those who have never experienced Reiki or those who have had many treatments. It is also suitable as a refresher for those who received their Level 1 attunements some time ago and are wishing to progress on to Level 2.

The first course will be in March on 22nd and 29th (this is subject to change dependant on availability of attendees so please don’t be put off if you can’t make these dates). Leave me your details below and we can begin your own Reiki journey.

How meditation helped me through my Mum’s illness

Talking of meditation, I cannot tell you how much meditation helped me recently, how grateful I am that I have practiced meditation a lot over the years.  I’m grateful for the times I didn’t feel like it but did it anyway or when it just wasn’t happening but I persevered.  Why?  Because when things have been difficult over the last few weeks with Mum’s illness I have truly found the benefit of this calming, focusing practice.

There have been many nights when I have been awake at 4am with thoughts and worries going round and round in my head.  In a state of semi-sleep this can continue for hours, but when I realise what is happening and make a conscious decision to change it, then the magic begins to happen. To find out how meditation has helped me cope during this challenging time, click here to read more on my website.

Find a point of focus

I start by finding something, anything, nice to concentrate on.  For me this is often a tree, a flower or even just watching my breath – anything that is completely unrelated to what has been churning round my head.   It is not always quick and often not easy either.  However I keep bringing my mind back to my chosen thought, every time it starts to following the churning thoughts again. In time it wanders less often and I notice my wandering mind more quickly to bring it back.  I notice that it’s easier to re-focus on the more pleasant thought and that I become calmer and my heart rate slows again.  And gradually I fall back into a restful sleep.

But this doesn’t happen by chance, this happens because I have practiced and practiced and practiced.  Practiced in my group, with You Tube videos, in retreats or courses, with CDs and just on my own.  Time after time, so that I know what my mind is prone to doing, so that I know what thoughts are likely to keep my mind engaged and focused when it is at its most distracted.

Valentine’s Day special offer

We all love to treat that someone special and Valentine’s Day is a perfect excuse (not that we need an excuse). A treat should be something they wouldn’t do for themselves, something special and a little different.

Reflexology fits that bill perfectly. Taking time out for themselves probably isn’t something your other half often does for themselves, but we all know how important self care and time out really is.

So why not show your loved one just how important their wellbeing is to you by treating them to reflexology. This holistic treatment allows them to relax and unwind which will help to bring balance to their body and mind too. You can find out more about reflexology here.

And to make it extra special I have the perfect experience for you:

Order a gift voucher for a reflexology session and I will send the voucher along with a limited edition aromatherapy spray. Made with the highest quality ingredients, this spray contains a blend of essential oils which will create a sense of peaceful calm and relaxation, with sensuous undertones. Use as a room or pillow spray then light candles, sprinkle rose petals and put on your favourite tunes for that perfect romantic evening.

You can purchase the Valentine’s Day offer for £50. (The offer includes gift voucher for one hour reflexology treatment and the limited edition pillow spray).

Order the Valentine’s Day gift voucher and spray by filling in the form below.

Lifestyle, Meditation

Join our meditation circle online.

Our online meditation circle meets every Thursday at 7pm on Zoom

I lead a guided meditation for about half an hour, sharing exercises, techniques and journeys to help you find your own way with meditation and hopefully help you to build your own practice.

I ask for an exchange of £5 per week (or £20 per month if you are a regular attender)

Some come every week, others just when they need it.  Some have other commitments and so book with me in advance and I send the recording of the session to them afterwards.

I record each session but after I have stopped recording we often stay online and chat about our practice and whatever else comes from where the conversation takes us…….

How it works.

  • I send out a weekly reminder email
  • Reply to this email or click the button in the email to let me know you are interested that week
  • I will confirm and send you payment details
  • You will receive an email an hour or so before the circle with a link to join on Zoom.  It is very simple to join!

If you would like to join this week then please complete the form below and I will be in touch.  You can also complete the form below to go onto the reminder list if you can’t make it this week.
